Embers is a small Wood fire Pizza restaurant on the main street in Richmond NSW. It is a small restaurant offering a range of pizzas and pastas, as well as a few other main courses. I went as a part of a group, around 16 of us in total for a birthday party. The first thing we noticed when we got to the restaurant was that, even when almost empty, it was a challenge to get to our table because it was so tight. And the table itself wasn’t much better. Everybody was squished shoulder to shoulder and there still wasn’t quite enough room for all of us to have access to the table. When we asked for another table to be added to the end of ours, we got a vague response from our waitress, which was a theme from her throughout the night, and she told us that the tables on either end of ours were both booked. One of them had a party of four come about an hour and a half after we got there, and the other, no-one. Not a good move on their part.

once we were attended to for food, over an hour after we had arrived, we were told that, even though there was a three year old that ate one piece of pizza and a 90 year old woman that didn’t eat much more, we were made pay for two extra people to get the banquet we wanted, even though we ended up walking out with five pizza boxes and twice as many pasta boxes.

once we had ordered, the service was quite fast, which actually was a bad thing as we had gotten our entrees, pizza crusts with a selection of dips, and five minutes later they were taking them away, barely half eaten to make room for pasta on the table, then shortly after the pizzas were brought out and the pastas taken back. Granted we got those all packaged up at the end of the night, but it felt like they rushed us through the meal. For just under 500 bucks, I would have expected better, but they just didn’t deliver.

The food itself was fairly good, the pasta was particularly nice. Overall though, I would not recommend this place for groups larger than 8, it’s too cramped. I would, however, recommend it as a date night venue. Its intimate enough for two and it would be a nice atmosphere.
